Modern Plus Sampler

pieced and quilted by Cheryl Brickey, designed by Cheryl Brickey & Paige Alexander

custom photography package by us

This quilt is really exciting to share - it is the quilt that you can make as part of the Modern Plus Sampler quiltalong led by Cheryl and Paige! Isn't it gorgeous? It combines a number of blocks from their book, Modern Plus Sign Quilts, arranged in a stunning new layout. There are so many ways you could color this quilt, but Cheryl's careful placement of lights and darks, with dashes of blue-greens, is simply genius.

Be sure to click through all of the photos - not only are her free motion quilting details amazing to see, but this quilt also photographed beautiful draped into different positions - which means it would look great in your home! So go on, join the quiltalong, you know you want to...

Primrose Path

Pieced by Allison Jensen

Quilted by Starlit Quilts, Custom Photography Package by Us

Alli, one of our Brand Ambassadors, sent this lovely twin-sized quilt to our studio to be photographed. She used lots of neutral yardage and added pops of color with charm pack squares to create darling little accents.

It has a fresh and sweet look to it, accented by the longarm pattern: quilted flowers with loops. Alli has this pattern available for sale here.

Celtic Crossing

quilted by Knot and Thread Design, custom photography package by us

We're excited to share our first Brand Ambassador quilt! Brittany designed and pieced this sweet baby quilt, Celtic Crossing, as a play on the negative space of a traditional Irish Chain quilt. For this version, she used gray solids, paired with a striking geometric quilting pattern.

"I started with Kona Charcoal on the outer edges, then Kona Steel, Kona Iron and Kona Quicksilver. My background was Kona Snow (as always!). I'm typically not the biggest ombre fan, but I HAD to do it with this quilt and I loved how it turned out!"

This quilt is all about line and form, and beautifully combines soft and strong. Brittany sent this quilt off to Knot and Thread Design for edge-to-edge quilting, and used a whimsical hedgehog print for the backing.

You can find this pattern for sale in her shop here

We're back with another quilt by scrap quilting maven, Erika. This gigantic, queen-sized scrappy quilt combines postage stamp squares and bordered rectangles. She expertly mixed these together in warm and cool sections. She backed it with a pop-style print and bound it with an electric yellow.

Erika sent this quilt to Darcie Mair for longarm quilting. Darcie used a chunky, variegated thread and flow quilted edge to edge swirls, feathers, paisleys, and other curly motifs. This quilt has been machine washed and has a luxuriously soft texture.

Revived Vintage Stars

vintage quilt photography co-1.JPG

Revived Vintage Stars is baby quilt with scrappy postage stamp blocks, interspersed with simply paper-pieced blocks that make up the navy star pattern. Amy free motion quilted it with a traditional orange peel pattern. She backed it with a lavender Tula Pink print and bound it with a black and white polka dot.

This quilt was inspired by a vintage quilt that Amy found on Pinterest. She tweaked the layout and kept within the vintage feel of the pattern by mixing in 30s style fabrics.

This fun quilt is perfect for the little ones in your life! Joanne offers a pattern for Starfall in baby, throw, and twin sizes. It combines isosceles triangles and traditional 6-pointed stars in a joyful 'falling' pattern. Joanne sewed this version with bright, vibrant florals alongside a cream background fabric. She quilted it with a combination of straight lines and diagonals, switching whimsically between the two.

A Bit of Christmas in May

quiltB-3 (1).JPG

Erika created this queen-sized quilt with postage-stamp, scrappy piecing. She backed it with a fun, newsprint-y fabric that picked up the limey-greens in the quilt top. She bound it with an angled red & white stripe, which gives a fun hint of candy cane to this Christmas quilt.

Erika carefully created three categories of postage stamp blocks: red squares only, green squares only, and half & half in a checkered pattern. The way she placed these three blocks creates a transparency effect that helps the viewer's eye to move around the quilt. The subtle pattern looks like simple patchwork when the quilt is bundled up, and gives that familiar, cozy feel of an old quilt. Erika updated the Christmas color palette using bright, even lime greens, in place of the typical evergreens. There are even a few hints of turquoise green mixed in.

Spring Breeze

quilted by Holly King, @fatrabbitquilts // Photography Package 3 by us

This scrumptious, scrappy quilt was made with columns of chevrons, pieced with 2.5" strips. Holly then quilted it with variegated thread, walking next to the seams. She backed it with a Hungry Caterpillar themed fabric, and bound it with a solid purple.

What makes this quilt successful

Holly used a huge variety of scraps, with lots of pattern. This could have quickly become too busy, but Holly navigated this challenge by separating the scraps into cool and warm sections. That, paired with the extremely simple and pleasing chevron design, makes this quilt an example of effective scrap-quilting.
